The Avant 916i uses the
latest generation of Mordaunt-Short’s respected CPC (Continuous Profile Cone)
technology mid/bass drivers. These complement the loudspeaker's larger cabinet
design to produce an incredibly detailed, expansive and authoritative sound
which bridges the gap between two-channel and home cinema speakers. Indeed the
916i is incredibly flexible and can be integrated with the rest of the Avant i
range to form the perfect home cinema system.
The Avant 916i uses the latest generation 6.5” CPC™
(Continuous Profile Cone) mid/bass drivers. These larger cones produce a
greater radiating area and afford increased power handling for a commanding
overall sound stage. The uninterrupted cone surface ensures excellent rigidity
and therefore minimal distortion, something conventional drivers have trouble
matching. The cones also encompass V-Form technologies, where the surround
varies in thickness thereby aiding more accurate diaphragm termination, and
allows the dish to operate incredibly freely, delivering huge benefits in timing and performance.
The hugely respected 25mm aluminium dome tweeter is a
proprietary Mordaunt-Short design and delivers elevated dynamic accuracy and
realistic resolution. The metal dome maintains its form at higher Sound
Pressure Levels (SPLs) where soft dome variants tend to break down.
One of the most interesting aspects of the 916i is the
isolate mounted crossover which is relatively unheard of at this price. The
crossover is kept away from any interference and distortion to provide an
inherently clean and expansive sound. Indeed, this further demonstrates
Mordaunt-Short’s dedication to providing a sense of scale to movies and music.
Critically formed driver baskets ensure lower
distortion by further strengthening the driver mounting to dramatically reduce
mechanical flexure and thus improve dynamics. This kind of attention to detail
is what gives Mordaunt-Short’s products their classic yet innovative sound.
Audiophile grade components including Dual Value
Parallel (DVP) configurations are used throughout the design for best possible
sound reproduction. DVP uses two different value capacitors to do the job of
one for improved signal path and lower distortion while standard Avant 900i
bullet terminals allow simple and effective connections.
The Avant 916i is internally partitioned and features
its own reflex port for low end bass but also provides extremely detailed treble.
The Avant 916i's cabinet is strategically braced and
key panels are strengthened while carefully selected wadding ensures a
maximally controlled enclosure.
